Direct Message Safety

Direct messages are provided so users can talk privately about aquarium-related topics. They must be used safely and responsibly.

Private does not mean consequence-free

Direct messages are not actively monitored by default. However, they may be reviewed if reported, flagged, or needed for safety, security, abuse prevention, moderation, or legal reasons.

Do not use DMs for

• Harassment, bullying, threats, pressure, or intimidation.
• Sexual, adult, exploitative, or inappropriate messages.
• Scams, suspicious links, phishing, malware, or payment tricks.
• Requesting private personal details such as addresses, phone numbers, passwords, school/work locations, or private contact details.
• Trying to move users to unsafe off-site contact.
• Evading chat restrictions, blocks, reports, or moderation action.

Blocking and reporting

Users can block or report private messages where tools are available. Reports may be reviewed by a moderator or site administrator.

Feature limits

TanksConnected may limit direct messages for new accounts, unverified accounts, restricted accounts, or accounts that trigger safety concerns. File/image sending may be limited or unavailable.

Safety first

If someone makes you uncomfortable, pressures you, asks for private information, sends suspicious links, or behaves inappropriately, block and report them.
