Chat Rules
These rules apply to public chat, private messages, and any other live messaging features on TanksConnected.
TanksConnected chat is provided so fishkeepers can talk, ask questions, share aquarium advice, and enjoy the hobby safely.
Use of chat is a privilege, not a right.
Who can use chat
- You must be logged in to use chat.
- Your email address must be verified.
- New accounts may need to wait before speaking in public chat.
- Some chat features may be limited, paused, or disabled for safety reasons.
Be decent
- No harassment, bullying, threats, intimidation, or targeted abuse.
- No hate speech, discrimination, slurs, or hostile behaviour toward protected or personal characteristics.
- No sexual content, adult content, grooming behaviour, or inappropriate messages.
- No scams, phishing, suspicious links, malware, or attempts to trick users.
- No spam, flooding, repeated posting, or deliberately disruptive behaviour.
- No impersonating staff, moderators, bots, services, or other users.
Personal information
Do not share or request private personal information in chat. This includes addresses, phone numbers, passwords,
payment details, school or workplace locations, private contact details, or anything that could put someone at risk.
Private messages
Private messages can be reported and blocked. They are not actively monitored by default, but may be reviewed if
reported, flagged, or needed for safety, security, abuse prevention, or legal reasons.
Reports and blocks
Users can report chat messages and hide messages from other users. Repeated or serious reports may trigger temporary
automated safety actions while a moderator reviews the situation.
Moderation
TanksConnected may remove messages, pause chat access, restrict accounts, or take other action where needed to keep
the site safe. For more detail, see the
Reporting & Moderation Policy.
